since its inception, shifted s avian imprint has gone from being a murderous, straight-laced techno imprint to what has now become a source for some of the best and most multi-faceted industrial music from the european quarters. we re not sure of verge s true identity, it could either be one of the label s existing artists, the mysterious shifted himself, or even an artist like blawan riding incognito (don t quote us on that, though!) solitary and crest-fallen, this magnetic collection of tunes feed off one another with utter ease and simplicity. they re not merely a selection of sound experiments but rather a unitary cloud of sonics which leave the listener with a powerful mental image. the feeling of dusk, the water dropping off the leaves, the cold breeze of autumn. this is a blinding foray into the darkest corners of contemporary industrial experimentation.

“a safe place to be naked” is s. fidelity’s debut album, which will be released on may 5th via jakarta records. it features 12 tracks, capturing the producer’s quest for a fresh sound, which he elaborated over the last two years, locked in his tiny basement studio in berlin. evolving from there the he has also released an ep with feelin music in 2014, and “sidekicks”, a joint project with long-term friend and collaborator bluestaeb in 2016. by working with artists like tru thoughts singer harleighblu and label mate juju rogers as well as fellow producers bluestaeb and shuffle jack, his lp “a safe place to be naked” plays with sampled vocals and even his own voice – often distorted, but still present. s. fidelity was born in st. gallen, switzerland, mainly works in berlin and currently resides in london. as a producer he developed a unique and always driving sound, combining sampling techniques and classic beat making with unusual drum patterns, modern synth and atmospheric sound effects. s. fidelity’s laid-back eclecticism is marked by a deep knowledge and fascination for pop culture as a whole. his idea of fresh hiphop references to various genres, including jazz, ambient, disco and electronica. the lp contains an a2 poster & download code.

mysterious berlin based label mask preps its debut release titled ‘lemmy’ with four untitled cuts this april. a new series born out of an established german imprint, mask’s enigmatic debut release was produced using a selection of analogue gear including a moog slim phatty, e-mu sp-1200 and nord rack 2x. the a side begins with a track built around a tightly programmed drum loop which subtly builds, laced with mix-slicing hats and sub-low kicks whilst stretched out chords dissipate around a crunchy synth lead. the second production is twisted and dusty, using flanging and reverberated effects to lead towards a distorted breakdown, driven from the depths by gusts of full bodied snares and a growling sub line. on the flip, dulcet tones of a female vocalist join lush melodic chords to cleanse the palette, whilst working within the confines of a subdued yet crisp drum machine groove. the final track then strips things back even further, employing minimalist percussive hits and a warm bass lead, leaving space for its soothing female vocals to do the talking

o celebrate the 25th anniversary of ugkãs first album, get on down goes the extra mile, presenting it for the first time ever on vinyl. and 2-lp clear vinyl at that, giving the strutting, funky grooves the chance to really stretch out on your system. back in 1992, southern hip-hop was still proving to the world that it could sustain a fan base that was chiefly raised on rap from new york and la. the geto boys and 2 live crew had made strong cases by the earliest 90s, and pimp c and bun b were ready to make their own. most of the trunk-bumping bass comes from drum programs and basic sampling on these tunes in later years they would build their sound into something even fuller and deeper. self-produced with additional work from houston locals bernie bismark and shetoro henderson, the tracks here are minimal, slow and menacing, which matched their lyrical approach quite nicely. you can hear the beginnings of the groups true greatness in these early lyrical workouts ¹ several taken from the regional cassette-only ep the southern way that got them signed to jive with tales of street hustles, relationships and self-reliance in a world stacked against them. they may have been done early-on, but that doesnt mean they arent crucial to ugks legacy cases in point being the three singles: something good, a charismatic update to bill withers use me up, and pocket full of stones (the latter featured on the menace ii society soundtrack). beyond the singles, deeper cuts like iãm so bad, feels like iãm the one whos doin dope and cramping my style made it clear to the world that this crew had the attitude and charisma to make even bigger waves in the years to come.

almost 10 years have passed since onra arrived with the charmingly eccentric chinoiseries lp. 32 hip-hop beats formed the sample-based project - dusty chinese vinyl hissing and crackling throughout – resulting in an intriguing and spontaneous mix of the producers interest in exploring a newly-discovered style of music with his love for classic hip-hop production.
using the style of analogue mpc production combined with the somewhat restrictive record sampling of strictly chinese music records, he has been able to be creative over three volumes, an amount of 100 instrumentals, despite the challenge of finding more obviously standout samples in chinese music.
the chinoiseries projects are the type of albums that invites the listener to play it from beginning to end, in order to really enjoy the trip and appreciate the variety of rhythms and textures spread over those 32 short instrumentals. in that way, “pt.3” is no different to its predecessors, but the originality of the samples, the curious harmonies and the odd-drum patterns still makes the album sounds as fresh as the first one.
onra finishes this epic trilogy with class as a result of extended record digging across the far east and the producer s own development over the preceding 10 years.
as a producer who has released records inspired by 80’s funk, 90’s hip-hop and r’n’b, electronic and even a spiritual jazz project, “pt. 3” brings this stylised set to a close.

over the past five years velvet season & the hearts of gold have laid down all manner of sizzling disco edit grooves that veer into spaced out, cosmic territory, but on this new joint for blue velvet they aim for the jugular with an abundance of cheeky licks from familiar sources. angel dust is set to get all manner of parties going wild with its classic hooks, while turn me on takes a smoother approach into romantic climes with equally recognisable sounds repurposed for the modern dancefloor. the samples may be easy to spot, but that just makes this records appeal even more universal.

“horse follows darkness” is the second record by delia gonzalez, her follow up to the album “in remembrance”.
the title is taken from a werewolf genre film her 8 year old son wolfgang had created. horse follows darkness is essentially a modern electronic soundtrack for the revisionist western.
even the idea for the record cover is inspired by one of the most well known modern westerns, robert altman’s mccabe & mrs miller.

ofo the rock company (originally known as ofo the back company) were nigeria’s first acid-rock band. blending hendrix and deep purple with shamanism and a pro-black philosophy, they cut their teeth at fela kuti’s afrika shrine, developing a fearsome live reputation that intimidated every other band in lagos. no one wanted to follow the guys from ofo, not even fela himself.

originally released in 1997 during the heyday of the alternative uk electro scene, finley quaye’s debut “maverick a strike” struck a chord with many. fusing dub, reggae, pop, triphop and indie, his amalgam of styles resonated throughout the music world like no other record at the time.

segun bucknor fell in love with american soul music as a student at new york’s columbia university. otis redding, wilson pickett, sam cooke and ray charles hadn’t made much of a splash in africa at the time and when bucknor returned to nigeria in 1968, he was determined to bring the sound to a wider audience.
the result was brand of afro-soul that in turn became a proto-type of afrobeat. with his bands, the assembly and the revolution, he released a few politically charged tracks, but even with his energetic dance trio, the sweet things, turning up the heat, bucknor couldn’t compete with fela kuti.

the self-proclaimed funkiest band on the west coast of africa, the heads funk band, could arguably make that claim for the whole continent. featuring the slick guitar of felix ‘feladey’ odey, the slinky drumming of eddie offeyi and the swirling keyboard chops of kevin ‘fortune’ coburn, nobody was funkier. and that’s not even taking into account the dance floor monsters they were releasing at the same time as akwassa.

the 9th piece to the ever growing vinyl puzzle comes from encrypted audio s own trisicloplox (killian) residing in the us heartland for bass music denver / colorado. not the only denver ite on the ea roster you will be hearing from i assure you. killian s love for distortion and forward thinking wave forms takes the listener into an emotive bass and kick driven frenzy across all his tracks. cafe blank in a monster with a driving kick pattern and distorted topline to carry off any rave. estranged leaves you in a field a bass frequencies hard to match. iaido is seeing a lot of support from the likes of gothtrad and recently even the likes of the bug have found their ears gravitated towards trisco.

the sixth compilation of mutated machine music from contort yourself centres around british industrial pioneers nocturnal emissions. the group hack out two thick cuts of oil soaked savagery. gears crunch and chains clatter as drum machines are minced and mangled for demon circuits bloodbath before the reduced and removed bitterness of even the good times are bad. l.i.e.s. main man ron morelli under the guise of u-202 takes on the static of the 83 original, lonesome rhythms fired into a gaping hollow of echo and decay. there is brief respite, very brief, coming in the haunted strings of penelope s fiance. torrent grinds this short break into dust with exe 2 blueprint, a sludge stomper drowned in distortion and dripping with distress. innsyter (l.a. club resource), aka seixlack, calls time with the hazy house bottle smasher, think fog machines and bodies in the dark and youre getting close. off-kilter madness all-round!

croatian producer el nino andres is steadily building up an impressive arsenal of disco and deep house heaters on his own jackie brown label, having previously been running the hija de colombia imprint. on this fourth slab he pushes his sound into even more intriguing places. opening track slow mo tuesdays lets things roll out on a decidedly dusty tip carried by off-kilter drums. riviera blues stands out thanks to its tough 80s-styled drums and warm soulful melodics. low end massacre meanwhile gets choppy in the edit and makes a devilishly good job of riding the samples.

ltd to 200, it s been a while, but damon wild s synewave label is back in action to continue more than 20 years of service to the techno game, and this collaborative release with jurek przezdziecki shows that both label and artists are on searing form. of the original tracks on offer, -clutch- presents a slightly more subtle approach with its low frequency acid thrum steadily building in intensity compared to the upfront jackhammer intensity of -snatch-. cisco ferreira gets invited to do a remix of -clutch- as the advent, and makes it into a deep, cyclical stomper, and then gotshell ramps up the noise for an even tougher version of the track.

figure 86 finds the label’s headmaster revisiting a dormant classic from 2005, delivering two extended excursions that pick up on the lunatic vibe instilled by the original while each mix provides for a uniquely new experience. sitting on the record’s a-side is the hardspace mix, a sparse and bone dry rhythmic affair, built around the originals characteristic cut-up vocal sample. a hammering thump carries along the track relentlessly, the air of oppression created only amplified by a heavy assault of clangig claps. the digital bundle comes with an even more stripped-back hardspace tool version, making it an excellent surprise to throw in and out of mixes. on the flip faki takes opportunity to show us one of his lesser known sides, taking time to gently develop this deepspace mix into a meandering meditative journey. trading in the vocal for a spaced-out synth opens the track up for the shifting tribal drums to truly work their magic and makes this piece of music feel equally mysterious as it sways with cosmic energy.

after almost two decades, dan pius album self education (moto 003) finally gets the vinyl treatment it deserves: the best tracks extracted from dat tapes, pressed on wax and renamed to living in fear for cartulis music s fourth release. even though the original and incredibly exclusive cd was heard and appreciated in the years around its release in 1999 from djs such as jeff mills and carl craig, it was virtually impossible to own (only 30 copies were made, ever). despite its rarity and status, cartulis choses this masterpiece for one principal reason: the music. an exhibition of an innovative era, of heavy duty machinery (roland juno 60, roland juno 106, roland tr-909 and emu vintage keys, just to name a few) and of fine craftsmanship (using his own samples and playing the keys himself), the album opens your mind and ears to interconnecting styles of ambient atmospheres, electronic-instrumental hip hop, and signature dance-floor killers self education and living in fear. not only for fans of dan piu and his subsequent labels (moto music, deepartsounds, no acting vibes) but for any music aficionado that appreciates a deeply cult classic.

gents & dandy s are finally back with a 3rd limited 12- vinyl release and this time it s an artist ep by the hands of the greece, athens based achilleas dimitracopoulos, better known as fog. he s contributed to the house music movement since the late 90s and has previously released on labels like noir music, dieb audio, apparel music, seven music, and just recently suena hermosa. collaborations and remix work happened for kindimmer, patrick zigon or even kruse & nuernberg to name just a few.

medical records presents the third release in our transfusions 12- singles series. certain creatures (born oliver chapoy) currently resides in brooklyn, ny but has a career dating back to the early 90 s. he has roots in the miami hardcore scene that evolved into post-rock and even electronic pop (warm ghost). he began exploring electronics as certain creatures in 2013 with a 12- on styles upon styles with guest vocals from stuart argabright which led to oliver producing the 2014 black rain comeback record on blackest ever black. in 2015, oliver created a lush and enthralling lp vipassana, also released on styles upon styles. for this particular release for transfusions, oliver sought to step out of his production bias comfort zone by recording live takes with minimal editing and production in order to maintain a dirty, raw, haze-filled warehouse aesthetic. mission accomplished! the 12- contains 5 tracks total of uncompromising techno which we are ecstatic to unleash on the world. presented on classic 160gram black vinyl in our transfusions 12- sleeve. mastered by martin bowes at the cage studios, uk. crucial material for fans of surgeon, regis, as well as labels such as downwards, mote-evolver, and the like.

i discovered benoit b through his own label - banlieue records. he’s part of a new breed of young french producers who make music without any hang-ups and that are inspired by the entire history of house and techno and everything in-between. i liked the combination of club beats with a deep, super melodic approach. the 6 tracks featured here almost make up an entire album that reflects benoit’s skills and sense of production. everything is here -from ambient experiments to heavyweight club tracks and beyond. here, bear witness to the new sound of france (even though he lives in berlin!)

while david moufang, also known as move d, certainly needs no introduction, the label polyfon remained a tip for insiders. it might seem like a long shot, but that’s probably what led to the fact that the paths of david moufang and wolfram both – one of the polyfon founders – crossed a few years back. the erfurt located imprint was mostly recognized for its underdog releases from berlin-based tomtomgroove (the funkman), steffen baldo aka ugly drums from cologne (basement amusement park, the next room) and even workshops mastermind lowtec who released his critically acclaimed angstrom ep with the thuringian label.

onboard having come up with an annual-ish drop of 12inches since 2010, even brenden aka chmmr set aside the spring of 2016 to challenge himself to a new format: a full-length album. a true nostalgic, he uses compass point-era and early italo sounds for inspiration and attempts to simulate these styles. this makes for a melodic, chuggy and graphic album that belongs a little more in the living room than on the dance floor. with 10 tracks of dusty rhythms and the honest, naive and spacious themes that is brendens signature, its a record designed to signal that todays technological future may not be as different as yesterdays. features a nice-looking cover painting drawn by the late harold cohens aaron program - automation at its finest. hidden behind his chmmr moniker is even brenden, whose summery debut found its way into the world via norwegian psych-disco label luna flicks in 2010. the record became somewhat of a soughtafter item and after making pit stops at relish, dødpop and untz untz records, he landed on prins thomas full pupp in 2014 and have stayed put ever since, all the while enjoying a steady habit of record jocking and the occasional keyboard duty in telephones now-defunct live band. even resides in oslo makes odd waves without vowels.
